Santiago’s Shakedown 5 festival to feature British Blues/Rock legend Savoy Brown in 2007!

After taking a year off due to a devastating fire in January 2006, the Shakedown is back.  2007 also brings a new name; the Santiago Shakedown, Saturday, June 23 at Bailey Ray’s in Santiago, MN.  In years past, the Upper Mississippi Shakedown has built a stellar reputation, with acts such as Jim Belushi & The Sacred Hearts in 2004 and Little Feat and Elvin Bishop in 2005.

“The best festival of the summer!  I had a blast in Santiago at the Upper Mississippi Shakedown 3 in 2004!”, Belushi says.

This year, the festival will feature the British Blues/Rock legend, Savoy Brown.  Kim Simmonds formed The Savoy Brown Blues Band in London, England and was one of the very first British blues bands to record and tour, which began in 1966.  As one of the first racially mixed blues bands, Savoy Brown has had a storied roster of musicians including 3 of the 4 original Foghat members, as well as members of Fleetwood Mac, Robert Cray, U.F.O., Black Sabbath and many others.

Savoy Brown was John Lee Hooker’s backing band for his 1967 tour.  Simmonds has always loved the blues, and the band’s success and his singular guitar skills brought him to jam with everyone from Charles Brown and Earl Hooker to Jimi Hendrix.  Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker formed Cream and headlined their very first show in London with Savoy Brown supporting in 1967.

The band began to focus on the United States and built a huge audience here.  Superstar acts including KISS, AC/DC and Jethro Tull have been opening acts for Savoy Brown over the course of an historic and storied career.

Savoy Brown featuring Kim Simmonds is playing concerts throughout the world in celebration of 40 years on the road.  On February 27, Savoy Brown released their 34th album, STEEL, which is already recognized as one of their finest releases from this historic band.

The 2007 Santiago Shakedown 5 festival lineup also includes The Lamont Cranston Blues Band, Reverend Raven & The Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys, Big George Jackson, Everett Smithson Band and newcomer Emily Graham.  There will also be a Friday night pre-fest party with the J.G. Lightborne Band from Wasau, WI.  6 bands, $20 advance, $25 at the gate.  Gates open at 1:00 pm, with free parking and free overnight camping (no hookups).  For ticket info, see www.baileyrays.com or www.ricoentertainment.com.
